The visit to Kenya follows a State Visit by
President Kenyatta to Ethiopia in March 2014.
In preparation, senior officials from Kenya and
Ethiopia have met in Nairobi since last week.
The discussions have focused on the speedy
implementation of Special Status Agreement
signed by the two governments in November
2012.
Tomorrow, the 35th Joint Ministerial
Commission will take place to pave way for
the first High Level Biennial Commission
which will be inaugurated by President
Kenyatta and his guest Prime Minister
Hailemariam.
This is in line with the 2014 Agreement to
elevate the Joint Ministerial Commission to a
Bi-National Commission to be convened at the
highest level of Government. The new
framework raises the profile of our structured
bilateral engagement to the highest level and
underscores the commitment of both countries
to consolidate our strategic partnership.
During the Summit, the two Heads of
Government will discuss a number of issues:
They will review progress on ongoing
LAPSSET projects,
Discuss energy related projects and
agreements,
Seek stronger cooperation on a range of
matters, including border management
and reducing human trafficking,
Strengthening security cooperation, and
Deepening commitment to regional and
international cooperation.
Kenya and Ethiopia are strategic partners and
will use this opportunity to enhance bilateral
economic cooperation between both countries,
including trade relations.
A Kenya-Ethiopia business forum – in which
business leaders will seek to strengthen
business-to-business relations - will be held
on 22nd June, 2016.
