Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s special thread: His speeches

In my book, one of the best orators that ever lived. Atlanta's most famous citizen. A born and bred product of the big ATL.

And he is none other than Martin Luther King Jr. The iconic American civil rights leader.

This month [April 2018] marked the 50th year since his life was tragically cut short by an assassin's bullet in Memphis, Tennessee.

I will periodically be posting YouTube video of his many speeches that he gave during his civil rights activism years.

So here we go.

My all-time favorite Dr. King's speech is the "What Is Your Life's Blueprint"? This speech is super inspiring.

This is the speech which is also known as the 'street sweeper' speech.

If you listen to this speech and you are not inspires then something might be wrong with you.

The guy was such a spellbinding speaker.


That's where he said"

If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well. If you can’t be a pine at the top of the hill, be a shrub in the valley. Be be the best little shrub on the side of the hill.

Be a bush if you can’t be a tree. If you can’t be a highway, just be a trail. If you can’t be a sun, be a star. For it isn’t by size that you win or fail. Be the best of whatever you are.
