Wa gwaan JF massive.
Today I want to drop a bomb on deadbeat and semi-deadbeat dads.
Listen, daddyhood is a full-time job. By that I mean a 24/7 commitment to your kids.
Which means, it is not about presents but rather presence.
Be around for your kids. Don't just buy them presents and then check-out and claim that you take care of them.
That's a bunch a bull and it does nothing but lead them down a primrose path.
Get involved in your kids' life. Talk to them. Play with them. Kick it with them. Teach them about life and how to be good, upstanding citizens.
Inculcate in them with a sense of responsibility, accountability, respect, and confidence.
I'll share with you one thing that I have done with my Kisura. When she first learned how to read, her pre-school teacher gave us a Winnie the Pooh quote to go hang it on her door at home.
This is the quote:
"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. i'll always be with you."
After I read it I agreed with it completely. I mean, what's there not to agree with? So I made her say it over and over and day after day until she had it down pat.
Being that I am a full-time dad I have no doubt in my mind that she will grow up to be one hell of a strong a woman, whether I'm around or not.
So, that's all folks. See y'all next time.
