Coalition building is expected to be one of the defining features of Kenya's 2027 General Election as political parties and leaders seek to consolidate support across different regions of the country. Kenya's presidential election system requires a candidate not only to secure more than half of all valid votes cast but also to obtain at least 25 percent of the votes in more than half of the 47 counties, making broad-based alliances politically important.
Coalition building has shaped the outcome of several previous elections, including the formation of the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) in 2002, the Jubilee Alliance in 2013 and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance in 2022. These alliances brought together multiple parties and regional leaders under a common presidential ticket, demonstrating the strategic importance of political partnerships in national elections.
