Chinese company, China Wu Yi (Kenya) Precast Co. Ltd., is fast-tracking a development plan that it hopes will revolutionise construction in Kenya.

The project is to create a manufacturing hub for new building technologies in Nairobi.

Lin Yihua, Deputy General Manager of the company, told local reporters that the firm has invested $100 million to set up a range of beneficial projects: Including building research and development, new production lines and a supermarket for construction materials.

The unique supermarket is expected to be ready by the end of this year.

“This project upon completion will be a modern building industry hub integrating industrialised manufacturing, production, research, development, sale, display and demonstration of construction materials,” said Lin in a statement.

He went on to add that the establishment of a manufacturing hub for new construction technologies in Kenya is in line with the Chinese government Belt & Road policy – a pioneering project that seeks to promote industrial and economic growth throughout Africa.

The company will produce interior wall panels, slabs and beams, columns and staircases for assembling during the construction of apartment buildings.

According to China Daily, the company has already installed a plethora of building equipment, including concrete mixers, cranes and welding machines that will be used to aid construction.

“All the installation and commissioning work will be completed by June 30 this year, we will start producing precast elements in July,” Lin told reporters, adding that precast materials will lower the cost and time taken to construct a house.

China Wu Yi (Kenya) has hit the ground running, after having only been incorporated in August last year it has already set plans in motion to change the way Kenya deals with construction.

“The technology is currently evolving and we are keen to introduce it to Kenya and other African countries. High quality, cheaper and environmentally friendly construction materials will fuel Kenya’s growth,” said Lin.

Meanwhile, China Wu Yi is in the process of setting up a three-story supermarket for building materials alongside a modern hotel to provide accommodation to customers from distant lands.

Lin told China Daily that the supermarket will stock high quality but pocket friendly construction materials from China.

Precast technology has already been in use in Europe, America, Japan and Singapore for many decades, it is thought with this technology being introduced to Kenya – it could help speed up and create better quality housing developments around the country.
