Arumeru.
The presence of three opposition MPs at a funeral at Migungani, Mbuguni Ward in Arumeru District, Arusha Region nearly triggered a brawl between CCM and Chadema supporters.Supporters of the two parties came close to a fight on Tuesday after three Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo MPs accompanied the partys parliamentary candidate for the Arumeru East by-election, Mr Joshua Nassari to the funeral.
The Chadema legislators have pitched a camp in the constituency whose seat was left vacant by the late Jeremiah Sumari of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM). The Chadema lawmakers were Vincent Nyerere (Musoma Urban) who is the campaign manager, and Special Seats MPs, Rose Kamili (Manyara Region) and Rebecca Mgodo (Arusha Region).
The delegation of Chadema MPs arrived at the scene shortly before the body of the deceased, Viola Gimosa, was brought from Mount Meru Hospital escorted mostly by Tanzanite small-scale miners from Mirerani.
The misunderstanding started when CCM supporters started to inquire who had invited the Chadema legislators to the funeral. At this juncture, a group of Chadema youths stood up and declared that traditions demand that people do not have to be invited in a funeral.
