MS TCDC is looking for vibrant, motivated professionals to take the position of Accountant and Course Administrator.


MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation (MS TCDC), located in Usa River near Arusha, was established in 1976 to prepare Danish volunteers to work in East and Southern Africa. Today it trains over 5,000 people annually from all over the world in development management courses, Kiswahili language and cultural orientation. For more information please, visit www.mstcdc.or.tz

MS TCDC trainings are structured around non formal and formal education programmes with strong synergies between them. MS TCDC is currently expanding its formal education programmes in response to the growing demand for transformative and value driven leadership in Africa. In order to support this expansion, the organization is looking for vibrant, motivated professionals to take the position of Accountant and Course Administrator.
1. Accountant

The Accountant reports directly to the Head of Finance Department and is a part of the team of Finance Department. The purpose of the position is to render deputy functions to the Head of Finance in his day-to-day operations and facilitate function wise link between the General Cashier and the Head of Finance.
Accountabilities:

  1. Advice the Head of Finance on any irregularity noted in the course of Audit/Test check.
  2. Advice the Head of Finance on any suggestion for cost effective measures in various Sections and Departments.

Professional Duties:

  1. Monitor staff debtors, trade debtors and creditors on a monthly basis.
  2. Monitor and Audit kitchen consumption, purchase and sales and the transport operations including checking logbooks.
  3. Carefully scrutinize vouchers and make sure they are genuine and properly filed out.
  4. Supervision of the Cashier in all cash transactions, controlling that the cash box is balanced daily and that the cash journal is kept up to date.
  5. Preparation and balancing of monthly salaries and wages for payment with assistance from the Cashier.
  6. Preparation of Proforma invoices and undertakes daily Book-keeping in the Navision.
  7. Monthly reconciliation of Staff Savings and Credit Society and issue of statements to members for signature.
  8. Preparation and making Ad hoc reports.
  9. Prepare and fill Annual returns to Tax Authorities.
  10. Execute any other duties laid upon him by the Head of Finance.

Candidate Profile

  • A Bachelor degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business related discipline with CPA qualification as a must. Membership of professional accounting association is an added advantage.
  • At least three (3) years working experience with an international organization (INGOs/CSOs).
  • Have passion for accountability and good governance.

Skills and competence

  • High level of cross-cultural skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Demonstrated skills in the operation of computer applications including advanced spread-sheeting and extensive working knowledge of operation of computerized accounting systems with a large organization i.e Navision.

2. Course Administrator

The Course Administrator reports directly to the Director of Finance and Administration and is a part of the team of Development Training Department. The purpose of the position is to administer academic programme and other courses or special programs and support and backup the Development and Training Department.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responding inquires from potential students and provides course details.
  2. Receive application forms and submit to selection committee.
  3. Receive results from selection committee and communicate to applicants and provide admission letter.
  4. Provide welcome letter, requirements, schedule, and practical information to students.
  5. Entry of students/participants in Navision.
  6. Update MS TCDC's Podio database with all information related to trainings.
  7. Prepare files and material for students and coordinate with Course Coordinators.
  8. Opening courses, providing practical information and showing around.
  9. Compiling grades and assignments register and submitted assignment and forward to Facilitators and send results to Exam Board.

Candidate Profile

  • A Diploma or Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline from accredited institution.
  • A minimum of one (1) year working experience with training institute/international organizations.

Attributes and key skills

  • Strong communication skills and fluent in English and Kiswahili, both verbal and written. Any other language skills are considered an asset.
  • High level of cross-cultural skills and flexibility to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with Navision is considered a strong asset.
  • Service oriented, professional demeanor and congenial nature.
  • Works in a timely manner with high quality in delivery and attention to detail.
Terms and conditions
The positions will all be based at the MS TCDC training centre in Arusha. The positions are offered under MS TCDC's terms and conditions with a fixed term contract of five (5) years with the possibility of extension depending on the future programmatic focus and needs of MS TCDC.
