Brights 2014 for east african economies

Depite a looming threat of food insecurity, the prospects for the East African economy in 2014 is generally good. This is because the drags of the region that is Kenya and Uganda have turned north and will join the club of robust growers. Inflation is low and is not expected to cross the single digit mark this year. The on going shift from rain-fed agriculture in Kenya to irrigation could ameliorate the situation in the second half of the year.

North is having insecurity problems that bring instability from Egypt all the way to South Sudan with only Dhibouti (an exception)! I don't understand why can that be a factor of growth if the situation can not be predicted in next 2 months...Are Kenya and Uganda expecting to rip big from Somalia and South Sudan? Ethiopia that has refused to open up her borders? I predict the factor will remain to be Tanzania for so many years to come the pipeline (Mtwara to Dar) will be ready this year that will double power supply from 1500 MW to 3000 MW a significant boost to economy! Also Kigamboni bridge, Dar port and airport expansion and flyovers will trigger massive construction around the peninsular and the city plus tourism will continue to grow exponential we expect over US$ 2 billion in 2014. Not to forget the Bagamoyo port (~US$10 billion) will kick start this February while the LNG terminals in Mtwara and Lindi are continuing to take shapes
