Goals by Mcha Khamis and the back in form, John Bocco secured a 2-1 win for Azam over Simba in a Vodacom Premier League match at National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory stretched Azam's unbeaten run to 23 matches and extended their point-lead at the top to seven points thanks to Yanga 2-1 loss against Mgambo.

In the 16th minute, John Bocco cut into the box and sent in a cross which Kipre Tcthetche managed to chest down to Mcha Khamis who thumped home despite a feeble blocking attempt from Amissi Tambwe.

Simba responded positively and saw most of the ball, however, they were not doing much with it till two minutes before the break. Ramadhan Singano whipped a wonderful cross into the box that was firmly headed home past Aishi Mwinula by Joseph Owino.

Simba continued their ball possession dominance after the restart but it was Azam who once again took the lead through John Bocco eleven minutes into the second half.

In spite of several substitutions from both sides, the score line remained unchanged as Simba squandered chances to convert fine play into goals and ultimately wound up with yet another defeat.

The defeat leaves them in danger of finishing outside the top four for the first time in over twenty years.

Azam's victory supplemented by Yanga shock loss edges them closer to their first Vodacom Premier League title.

With only three games to play, they are firmly in the driving seat cushioned by a seven-point gap between them and second-placed, Yanga who have a game in hand.

It seems Azam are as closer to the title as Liverpool is after waiting for more than two decades. With almost a similar number of games remaining, let us wait and see. Though, I am not a fan of Azam nor Liverpool, the two teams winning might make the VPL and EPL more interesting next season.

Not same as Liverpool considering MCF has two games to play....only when MCF loose their two games is when we can start considering the Reds.

I have considered the two games in hand. At this stage every game is equally important. Nothing is won or lost until the final whistle of each remaining game. It seems Liverpool had an easier ride against Tottenham than Sunderland. On paper, it would sound to be the other way round. Should MCF win those two games, they will accumulate 73 points, two above Liverpool. The game between the two teams will therefore provide a better indicator. Chelsea is still in the picture though!

Also the Voda Premier League in Tanzania, teams have to make more effort to win by big margin whenever possible say 6-0 because so far there are many matches ended with draws of 1-1 or 0-0.

This mentality of scoring by big margin will be carried forward into the Africa's CAF matches and Tanzaniani teams will have chances of progressing to last 16 teams stage in international competitions.

Currently most of the Tanzanian teams are knocked out of international competition in the initial stages like the way Azam FC was sent packing home by Clube Ferroviário da Beira due to lack of scroring many goals.

The goal average per match in the Vodacom Premier League is still very low, below 2.3 which is most betting firms rank as an inferior league.
But we can only improve that if we sort out our midfield and strikeforce issues.
