Hi

I love sharing what I know, please allow me to share what I know from my experience about job seekers/applicants. May be you have been applying for jobs but you have not been called for interview or you missed some job opportunity that you believed you qualified for.

I am sorry if I will be generalizing but what I need is to deliver the message. Please note that this is mainly applicable for those who apply using e-mails or other online services although other points are applicable for all job application methods.

The following are my observation that I believe they may have been hindering you from "calls for interview" but remember this depends on the knowledge and how serious the person who is recruiting is

1. You did not qualify for the job, possibly you did not meet the minimum requirements, the terms that are used to explain a job requirements do you know what they mean "…a must","..desirable" "..required",".. added advantage" etc.

May be you did not possess what they called " a must" or "minimum requirements "and by applying for a job while you do not have the "must" or "minimum" requirement it may indicate you are not good in following orders or you don't understand the language that has been used.

2. Wrong cover letter to the right job, some applicants because they have been applying for jobs once they see an opportunity they use their previous letter(s) and possibly forget to change the "Company name"," job title" ,"date" etc from the previous application(s).

3. Computer skills; what ability the applicant says he/she has is contradicted by his/her ability to use computer applications. A job requires you to send say your cover letter in one document with your Cv or certificated i.e they should be combined as one attachment but you find someone has sent them separately ,do you think the recruiter will have time to combine you documents when short listing more than say to the minimum 200 applications?

An applicant can send a scanned document that is upside down and claim to be competent in computer application but have failed even to rotate the view of his/her documents.

4. Quality of your scanned documents: some applicants scanned documents are not readable they are not visible as the result people can not see the details. My suggestion for whatever document you have scanned to be used for job application make sure it is visible/ readable.

5. Failure to follow application instructions: let me speak of Curriculum vitae and résumé, do you know the differences between them? Some applicants send CV while they have been told to send a résumé and vice versa. Find out the differences between CV and resume if you do not know them.

6. Bad Cv/resume:as a job seeker I believe you know you are not supposed to have one CV/résumé, I mean you have to change the contents to match the job requirements for the job you are applying for.

Some applicants write CV/resume that do not have any knowledge/experience or skills in common with those required by the job they are applying for. Should they call you for interview with these kinds of CVs/resume?

7. Language say English: no comment on this English is a problem, while the applicant claim to be "excellent in English" how the cover letter and CV are written prove him/her different.

Some other issues that may cause you not to be called for interview are

a)They failed to access/read you documents, how this happen? Most computers will have MS office and pdf reader softwares, what if you zipped your application and the receiver do not have software to unzip it? Just sent you documents in word or pdf and not in other formats.

b)You attached the wrong file, because you know nothing about close checking, reading between lines and the likes, may be you were in a hurry you attached the wrong file.

C) Possibly you wrote the wrong receiver's e-mail address

Cover letter:

If you can do this it will help you to write your cover letter easily, have your signature scanned and saved somewhere safe as a picture.

Then when writing cover letter just write in word then insert your signature as a picture at the bottom of your letter or on your CV if you have the part below

"I xyz I certify to the best of my knowledge that the above inform…. are true

Signature………..

When done if you have software to convert to pdf it will be good just convert so that no one can edit your letter or it will not be seen differently on the receiver's machine.

Please, you are welcome to add what you think may be is hindering job applicants from being called for interviews.

Regards

Aqua

Acha point less zako waajiri hawatathmini uandishi wa CV au uzuri wa mwandiko isipokuwa waitaji wafanyakazi wenyesifa walizotaja

I agree a bit with what you've said but number 5. There's no difference btn a Curriculum Vitae and résumé. CV is a British English and résumé is a North American English and both words have the same meaning, it's like saying HELA in Tanzania and CHAPAA in Kenya, and if you see there is a difference there that is yours and not belong to the english-born people. What I can say is, not all of us commit the aforementioned mistakes. We give our all to chase jobs but the job opportunities that we're fighting for are scarce compared to the unlimited number of job seekers in our country as a result few of us are taken and many are left...you're welcome to argue back should you not be satisfied.

A résumé is a document that summarizes your education, experiences, and competencies.

A curriculum vitae (CV) is a more comprehensive document that details ALL your past education, experiences, and competencies, including public presentations, academic writing and professional development.

I did not say all people who are not called for interviews do those mistakes that I have mentioned nor did I say they are the only things that hinder job seekers .If and only if you can read between lines you should be able to see that I requested others to add what they know are the causes so that people can avoid them in their next job applications.Did I not beg for apology in case I will be seen as if I have generalized?(refer the second paragraph of my first writing)
Cv its origin is Latin and Resume is French and they means two different things.

Ok Aqua, I respect your opinion but I adamantly disagree with you!

No problem you have the right to do so,because there is no universal law that say you should agree with people all the time.Only sometimes we have to agree to disagree.
