  • Speculation heats up over a "smart watch" in works from Apple
  • An Apple watch would likely run iOS, according to a report

Speculation that Apple is working on a "smart watch" to add to its mobile gadget portfolio heated up on Sunday, with reports from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
The Times, citing people "familiar with the exploration," reports that Apple is experimenting with a device made of curved glass that would run on the company's iOS mobile operating system. The Journal, citing "people who have been briefed on the effort," reports that Apple has discussed such a device, which would perform some functions of a smartphone, with its manufacturing partner Foxconn. Apple did not comment on either report.
Smartwatches were hot items at the big International CES trade show in Las Vegas in January, including the buzz-getting Pebble smartwatch that connects to your iPhone or Android smartphone and serves as a hub to quickly glance at emails or text messages, and weather alerts. (Pebble recently starting shipping in very limited quantities.)

And the iPhone maker's devices certainly stress design and aluminum constructions that have a fashion appeal among consumers.
Tech blog GigaOm had an interesting post late last week pointing out a blog post from ex-Apple designer Bruce Tognazzini in which he explains how an 'iWatch" would fill "a gaping hole in the Apple ecosystem
