The Uganda People's Congress (UPC) Parliamentary Caucus has reaffirmed Jimmy Akena as the party's legitimate president, rejecting claims that Denis Adim Enap has assumed the leadership of the party.

Addressing the media, the caucus dismissed reports suggesting that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) had played a role in installing Enap as UPC president, insisting that the leadership of the party cannot be determined by external individuals or organisations.

The lawmakers stressed that UPC's internal affairs are governed solely by its Constitution and the laws of Uganda, adding that no pressure group, political association or outside body has the mandate to appoint or impose the party's leadership.

The caucus argued that Enap did not fulfil the constitutional requirements for election as party president, noting that he neither completed the prescribed electoral process nor secured election through a UPC Delegates Conference, the party's supreme decision-making organ.

Members also rejected Enap's assertion that he had been elected by the UPC National Council, describing the claim as false and without constitutional basis.

"We do not recognise and will not recognise any leadership imposed upon the party by a third party or by individuals acting outside the constitutional framework of UPC," the caucus said.

The statement comes amid growing uncertainty over the party's leadership, with the caucus seeking to reassure members and supporters that Jimmy Akena remains the legally recognised president of the Uganda People's Congress until any leadership change is conducted in accordance with the party's constitution.
