“Africa must unite or perish” Dr. Nkwameh Nkrumah was frank about it, prof.Onyejekwe stated that Africa has in deed good plans but the fragmentation is a hindrance but suggested a solution for it- a continental government strategy. More so, Prof. Chege said The reality on the ground is that we see no involvement of ordinary Africans in this debate (ECA, 2017) .Thus to say proposing discussion to the people I too hold the same stand that it is the people that unite and not otherwise.

“Therefore Africa cannot expect her problems and concerns to be given priority by nations outside the continent” Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim he went on to say violence and instability are challenges to a united Africa. Poverty is also root to corruption, conflicts and denial of justice. Efficient use of resources, promotion of transport and communication are part of the solutions to our problems as Africans. “For the whole period of my public life, I have endeavored to contribute towards its realization, and I will continue to strive towards its attainment.” (ibid) Formidable challenges exist, but it is we, African peoples who can surmount this challenges, particularly because there is no other option. (Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, 2001 farewell dinner of the Organization of African unity)

Effects of colonialism, foreign aid, foreign direct investment and climate change with cultural issues are some of problems encountered in Africa, Niall Ferguson has indicated that globalization is a fancy word for imperialism, imposing values and institutions on others. (Farah, et al., 2011).Providing an intra trade solution to a united Africa is a way to get there, another challenge that exists is establishment of a supra national African Bank that would bring harmonization. (Qobo, 2007)

Some say Africa as a nation cannot happen in this generation, and I analyze that as an appeal to their guilt, fear or the nightmares of colonial rule. Everyone should give out their opinions and perspectives but not on behalf of the African people, have you met the people you assume to speak for- I for one for the few have met are a humble people, strong men and women. For if men fear great causes, women can take the lead in whatsoever way being equally justified.

“If Africa is to be developed, it should endeavor to produce its own technology; in so doing the leaders of Africa, and equally the elite, have a noble role to play.” (Nchimbi, 1977) The call for leaders is no new thing and the elite know it’s their primal duty to service the societies on which they live. More so, (Kamuzora & Kamuzora, 2012) “conflicts arise between the principal and the agent when the interests of the agent override the interests of the principal “An elaboration of the agency theory, thus in politics the principals are the citizens and the agent is the government the average politician in Africa demands more than is necessary.

“Universities in Africa must try to deal objectively with the problems they investigate: they should analyze and describe them in a scientific manner; and from their accumulated knowledge they should suggest methods of dealing with them.” (Nyerere, 1974) He adds on “the university, whether it likes or not is part of the society”. “Who does not realize that what the African need is not genius but race pride and that the lack of self-respect and self-confidence are the enemies of our national renaissance.” (Nchimbi, 1977)

Pessimists or Afro pessimists as it suits them, would take whatever card is on the table or sneak one in the game, I for one vouch and submit towards the alienable truth as Africa is one. For a people must unite, because a nation is nothing but the people. The journey to the promise land in the bible was nothing easy and the sins of men made it even more cumbersome and leading to the delay of arrival and so are Africans.”

Our differences” a common term used – I see none of which a people cannot agree upon for Africa is one. Therefore, the question of unity among the African tribes such as Tanzania, Egypt, Togo, and Eritrea I regard them as tribes to mention a few call for discussions and concern to the African youth and the elderly on the benefits and challenges, for to whom much is given much is expected. We as a people have a means through which we can achieve a harmonious Africa through discussions, religion, education, and works of art, literature, sports and the mass media. God bless

Africa, a united Africa.
