In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on December 14, president of African Development Bank (AfDB) said Africa was losing up to $148 billion annually due to corruption.

Africa loses about $148 billion a year because of corruption; Africa also loses 60 billion US dollars a year because of illegal capital flow, he affirmed.
These are money that should be going into education, health, water and sanitation sectors; wherever you have massive corruption, development takes a back seat and slow things down, added Mr. Adesina.

AfDB's president also emphasized that African countries needed to adopt anti-corruption policies.

Detecting corruption is important, but preventing corruption is also important. Therefore, it is in the interest of Africa to prevent corruption in order to boost economy and development across the continent, he said.

Most African countries are poorly ranked on the latest corruption perception index dressed by Transparency International. At the bottom of this ranking are Guinea Bissau, Chad, Kenya and Nigeria.

A major reason for the tendency is most African leaders are selfish and greedy people. They corrupts their ways to power and thereafter start reaping the wealth of their country mercilessly and expense of the poor majority. It is very pity to see that African leaders amasses wealthy more than leaders of developed Western countries! Is another wonder of the world!

Very true and sad, yet these leaders are left walking without being killed or imprisoned.

There's no end to poor Africans suffering, I say no way unless there's a total uprising in every African country. Kill every leader who's in power to steal and confiscate their wealth as this will teach them a lesson and respect. Few people cannot make Africans suffer year in year out, we need to teach these fools a lesson and respect. 21st century and we still live in the dark? Things have to change.

Takukuru in tanzania is not an anticorruption beaural it is a highly corruption squad !

We have only ourselves to blame. We need a big attitude change.

Very true....we need a change of attitude. We still have robbers (Mwinyi, Mkapa, Kikwete) walking free without being charged for embezzlement and corruption, how is this fair? They stole our money!

Very sure, but constitution does not allow it. They have big words, cheap talks and empty rhetoric. They were presiding over grand theft by their so called takrima.

Africa will never change if these so called pathetic leaders are not being charged for their crimes, however, to change people's attitude I truly do believe we need uprising and kill every leader who is known for corrupting a country.
