NIGERIA'S #DEMOCRACY_OBITUARY ANNOUNCEMENT:
With tears in my eyes and pains in my heart, I regret to announce the sudden demise of a beloved friend, Democracy, who has been with us in Nigeria since her birth on 29th of May, 1999.
HER LIFE...
Nigeria's Democracy lived a simple lifestyle and taught us that leaders should be opened to criticisms, that the people are always in charge, and that the leaders should always be held accountable by the people.
IT BECAME BAD...
Nigeria's Democracy's health began to deteriorate rapidly from 28th day of March, 2015. When ignorance, Ethnic bias and religious bigotry, led millions of Nigerians to the polls to cast their votes for an unrepentant dictator who has since 1985, done nothing to improve his capacity to lead a country in a democratic setting, whether academically or otherwise.
IT GOT WORST...
Nigeria's Democracy's health deteriorated further to the point that she lost ground on May 29th, 2015 when an unrepentant dictator was sworn in to rule over the land where she (Democracy) has flourished since 1999.
ALL HOPES WERE LOST...
Nigeria's Democracy lost the will to live when policies to strengthen the Political Insurance sector, where political criminals became saints soon as they become members of the same political party with the known dictator came into full force.
SHE WAS BUTCHERED LIKE A RAM FOR SALAH....
Nigeria's Democracy was battered, brutalized and torn apart when people who are perceived enemies of the dictator, started being detained unlawfully and without trial, prosecuted on pages of news papers and accused of crimes without proof and openly said to the world that court orders shall not be obeyed.
SHE FINALLY GAVE UP THE GHOST...
Nigeria's Democracy finally gave up the ghost on 8th day of October, 2016. by 1 a.m on Saturday morning when judges of federal high courts where being kidnapped in different cities, at the same time by the security apparatus of the dictator, had their houses broke into without arrest warrants, man handled a sitting governor of a state and threatened to shoot him.
BEFORE SHE DIED...
Before the death of Nigeria's Democracy on the 8th of October, 2016. Her daughter by the name, RULE OF LAW was raped to death by the dictator. Her son named FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION was murdered in cold blood.
WHAT SHE TAUGHT ME BEFORE HER DEATH.
I will remember her for cultivating in me and every concerned citizen of Federal Republic of Nigeria, very important and valuable lessons such as:
* Obedience to court orders by the high and low in the society
*Due process
* Lawful arrest of citizens with court warrants.
* Right to air our views without being scared of victimization
* Freedom of speech.
* Freedom of worship/movement
LEFT TO MOURN NIGERIA'S DEMOCRACY ARE:
* Impunity
* Crass dictatorship
* Injustice
* Political witch-hunt
* Dependence of INEC, Judiciary, National Assembly, Nigerian Police Force, EFCC, ICPC, NLC etc. on the dictator.
Rest In Peace dear Nigeria's Democracy.
Signed:
Echendu Daniel.
