Adnan Januzaj turns down Belgium approach

Manchester United have told the Belgium coach, Marc Wilmots, that Adnan Januzaj is not ready to commit his international future to the country of his birth at the moment. Wilmots, talking ahead of Belgium's game against Croatia in Zagreb on Friday, confirmed he had contacted United on Monday morning but had been told that the 18-year-old is not ready to make a decision on his international future.
"Manchester United told me that Januzaj has not made a decision to play for a national team yet,, not for any country," said Wilmots, who had hoped to replace the injured Vincent Kompany with Januzaj. "We gave a clear signal [that we want him to play for Belgium] and now it's up to him. I will respect his choice."
Januzaj, who joined United for a reported £297,000 fee in 2011, made the headlines on Saturday when he scored both his side's goal to seal a 2-1 Premier League win at Sunderland, has the possibility to play for several different countries. He was born in Belgium and qualifies to play for Albania through his parents as well as, reportedly, Serbia and Turkey through his mother.
The United manager, David Moyes, said on Saturday night that the FA had already been in touch over Januzaj while Roy Hodgson said on Match of the Day: "It has to be seriously debated before we start renationalising players but there's no doubt he's a real talent and we have our eyes on him. There's a lot still to be discussed."
Sir Alex Ferguson was also an admirer, saying before he left the club in May: "Adnan is a beautifully balanced player. He's only 18 and has to grow into his frame but he has good balance, good acceleration and is a very good technical player."
