This is an indictment of the Kenyan leadership. Sometime in 2016 there was a lot of noise being bandied about how Kenya had scored big with the Galana Kulalu irrigation scheme project after a whooping 2.7 billion shilling deal was pumped into it from Israel.

In Summary
  • An Israeli firm contracted by the government to undertake trials for the project will have access to the funds in the next few weeks.
  • The government is now pushing the firm to deliver the 10,000-acre model farm by July, ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit.
  • Apart from the loan, the Israeli Government is also providing an additional Sh3.5 billion grant for training.

A year later down the line we have nothing to show for it as Kenyans die all over the country from hunger.

United Arab Emirates has become the first to donate 150 tones of assorted food hardly a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared the drought situation a national disaster.

President Uhuru Kenyatta today said that the Government will continue enhancing drought mitigation measures to ensure all those affected are assisted.

He said the ongoing food and water relief, animal off-take and cash transfer programs are constantly being enhanced to support Kenyans to overcome the current hard conditions.

Uhuru had appealed for international aid to help mitigate the drought situation that has affected people, livestock and wildlife in several counties mostly in Northern,Coastal and far North Rift regions.

"Support from our partners would complement government's efforts in mitigating the effects of drought," the President said mid last month.

Yesterday Uhuru ,in a statement send to media said the government continues to expand the relief efforts so that no needy Kenyan is left out during the hard times.

“I take this opportunity to assure all Kenyans that the Government is doing all that is in its power to ensure that people in need are assisted,” said the President at State House, Nairobi.

The President spoke when he witnessed delivery of donations from the UAE in support of the government’s drought mitigation measures.

The middle-eastern country donated 150 tonnes of assorted foods worth Sh20 million to be distributed in drought affected regions.

The President said he appreciates foreign and local partners who have responded to the government’s appeal for support .

He government has already doubled relief efforts to cover 3 million people, up from the initial 1.3 million adding that it has also enhanced water trucking in the 23 arid and semi arid counties worst affected by the drought.

President Kenyatta recently gave a directive for all relief efforts to be streamlined under the Devolution Ministry to ensure synergy in delivering aid to needy Kenyans.

Last time I checked, Kenya's also a desert country, 80% at least. The 17% arable bit hasnt enjoyed adequate rainfall for much of the year past, (forget not about the el nino), resulting in poor harvests.

Boy, this indeed is a country of whiners!

shida kubwa ni Afrika tunazaa ovyo ovyo...you find a guy in Turkana with 15 children and no job....how do you expect such a guy to feed all these children leave alone take them to school...then we die of hunger and desert countries come to our aid.....that my friends is a shame...a shame on us as Africans...

well yes it is....most of the country is either arid or semi arid...the ones that receive decent rainfall grow commercial crops like tea, coffee, flowers for export to Europe...

Any person who has gone to school can not take any issue on such, unless misguided by the political inclination. It is on international relations that countries stand for one another. To solidify alliances and friendship. It is not that Kenya could not feed its people, but when another country steps in, the bilateral relations between the two are strengthened.

When an earthquake hit north-western parts of Tanzania, Kenya donated man power and food to the affected, it is not that Tanzania was unable to handle the situation or rather, just a gesture of showing we are together in this.

Kenya as dry as it is, is the largest contributor to the UN foreign relief funds, last year Kenya contributed 45B way far from South Africa, or Nigeria, Angola or Egypt combined.

This thread is really out of order!!

Kenya donates Sh45 billion to the UN. Becomes top contributor, but still no cancer care, hospital wards.

Acha uongo, 80% ya Kenya ni Jangwa? Unaelewa maana ya Jangwa lkn au unaongea tu? Kenya's Rift Valley is one of the most fertile regions in Afrika, hivyo acha kutafuta sababu, nchi ya Kenya haina sababu yoyote ile ya kufa njaa!

No! Kenya has Rif Valley which is one of the most fertile regions in Afrika!

For those who've been to Uganda mtajua why that is awkward.
Afrika Mashariki is now the most troubled region in Africa. Kama sio njaa ni vita.
We need a conference to critically discuss this.
East African solutions for East African problems!

Kumake sense na kuiponda nchi ya Kenya ni vitu viwili tofauti. If you stop for a second and listen utagundua kwamba there are things to be learned from all the criticism; concerns to be addressed.

A country of grown up men and women who are skilled in so many fields, and we think that begging or appealing for msaada from other nations will suffice? Where do our skills help us?
The real problem is the pedestrian thinking on agriculture that all kenyan govts since jomo have had. Revolves mostly around the idea that its for "poor " people, involves mostly hoeing, should be rain fed, is not an economic activity, should not be researched....
Uhurus appeal for aid is a national humiliation, this guy should just retire peacefully, we shall give him a 50 shs coin for remembrance sake, sitakataa.

So is Tanzania perfect now that you only address your criticisms only directed to Kenya? Are you trying to say you're more concerned about Kenya than your own country?

We have our weaknesses and you have yours. Feel free to point out Tanzania's.

No thank you. I would rather focus on the log in my eye than the spec in my neighbors. That's the kind of character I expect from some Tanzanians like you.

Mimi nawaangalia tu hawa middle economic country wakisaidia chakula na nchi zingine.
