Moses Bikala A 40 year old peasant farmer committed suicide on Thursday after he jumped in front of a speeding trailer at Iwawu village along the Iganga-Jinja highway.
The deceased, Jeri Mukama a resident of Busanda village, Kityererera sub county died instantly. According to an eyewitness, Sadat Mugoya, the deceased who stood at the road for over two hours leapt to the middle of the road as the fast moving trailer approached.
The driver of the trailer registration number UAU 402 E-ZE 5122 attempted to brake in order to save Mukama's life but it was all in vain. The district police commander Iganga, Vicent Mwesigye said the deceased left behind a suicide note in his pocket which indicated he was tired of being in the world since he was suffering from HIV-AIDS.
Mwesigye cautioned members of the public to desist from committing suicide on grounds of illnesses. "There are ailments like AIDS which have treatments" he said. He said the driver of the trailer currently parked at the Iganga police parking yard, is soon to appear before court to answer charges of murder through reckless driving.
