Uganda: UPDF officers arrested over fake arms deal with a Polish firm

Two people including Captain Ronald Muhoozi Mutebi an aide of Gen Salim Saleh, the brother to President Yoweri Museveni have been arrested over a fake arms deal between the UPDF and a Polish firm.

According to the UPDF spokesperson Col Paddy Ankunda, Capt. Muhoozi was arrested days after Sam Simbwa, a civilian was arrested over to help police and military intelligence investigations into a fake deal worthy Euros 10 million (Shs40 billion) involving BMP Poland SP ZOO.



Anunda told journalists on Wednesday that Uganda government had invited directors of Ms BMP Poland, reported to have lost Euros 500,000 (about Shs4 billion) to the said suspects.

“Considering the amount of unsolicited publicity that has been made around this matter, most of which highlighting on issues that are still under investigation, the UPDF would like to further clarify and appeal as follows; The fraudsters issued standard bid documents to Marek Celer on 1st August 2015 that were apparently signed by a self-styled Brig Okello Okutta. The said officer is not known to be a member of UPDF,” he said.
