I'm among a company of people who love to download their files to desktop as intermediate place. Who does want to make a long journey to C:/users/me/Downloads to fetch files and folders? Many of us are indeed lazy and why should I open windows explorer while I can find it just on my desktop? That mentality was carried with me to Linux world and eventually my desktop became a messy.

So what can I do to avoid a shabby desktop in front of people so that I look more "organized and professional"? In windows you just right click the desktop and do un-tick the Show Desktop Icons and you are done. Clean desktop with only wallpaper! Your boss will praise you for being neat and will quote you as example to your neighbor and fellow worker.

But what about Ubuntu Linux? Its rather easy. Just open terminal copy and paste the command and press return key!
Behold your messy is cleaned!

Command:

PHP:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false

If your boss does make salary increment for that: remember me!
BH!

why get yourself into all the troubles if a small trick can save you the headache? Solution: install fences in your computer and the next time you don't want to see the mess on your desktop just double click it! Double click it once again and voila, the mess is right back there for you to do with it anything you please!

In world with no houses who needs bills for gates or Windows? You can make it a script and run it or even bash_alias command. For example I have a bash_alias command zima which when I type in my laptop it shuts down.
That is why I love penguins!
