'Is the US acting like a normal state?' That’s the question which has been dominating geopolitical discussions in the World since the US assassinated the top Iranian commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani earlier this month.
The targeted killing of General Soleimani has added yet another name to the list of figures blatantly killed by Washington in the region, escalating tension in bilateral relations between Iran and the United States.
An increasing number of people in Italy have also begun to see the US as the world’s biggest rogue state.
US President Donald Trump has withdrawn from a number of global accords, including the Iran nuclear deal since he took power in November 2016, openly lying in many cases to advance his agenda. The Washington Post has estimated that in the first two years of his presidency, Trump made around 8,000 false or misleading claims.
The term rogue state is generally applied by international theorists to states they consider threatening to the world's peace or stability. A rogue state pursues state interests in total defiance of accepted standards of international behavior and the basic principles of international law.
Trump has blocked the WTO judges’ reappointment because the court refused to quickly rule in favor of Washington during a trade dispute between China and the US last year. The US president's latest display of his recklessness involves threatening to impose 25 percent tariffs on cars to push EU countries to initiate proceedings against Iran for violating the nuclear deal.
