Recently the Minister of Finance Dr. Mgimwa has announcedin the parliament that all the government workers will use their own personal vehiclesin order to reduce public expenditure this is a laughable issue because thegovernment is not going to implement this, the government is thinking that usthe citizen of this country we dont have memory, during President Mkapas erathe presidential order was given for the same and it cleanly stated that theMinistry will have only five cars Minister car, Deputy Minister, PermanentSecretary, Pool car and Supplies department pickup it ended up by all the brandnew vehicles of the government being loaned to civil servants some were hardlysix months, those vehicles were loaned to civil servants for peanuts!! Somewith auction value of 50 million were loaned as low as 200,000/= after threemonths the government started buying new cars and as we see today thegovernment owned more cars than the companies which are producing! The Mkapascheme failed because half of the recurrent budget is going to service thetransportation department hence all half of the corruption is happening therewhy will the government which is dependent on this kind of illicit transactionwant to close its own lifeline? I think they want to do the same of loaningeach other the government cars so that history can repeat itself!
