Maybe it's true that we live in a society where taking one step forward is always followed by a gang of hooligans and trouble makers pushing us ten steps in the opposite direction. While some societies have made numerous strides to get to where they want, others remain handicapped without realising that major changes that can positively affect their progress have to start at individual level
You have a part of the world where decisions are made based on sound logic and research in contrast to a land where ignorance and a lack of know-how rules out most of its members from the decision-making process. A part of the world where interactions amongst members originates from the desire to engage one another and therefore learn from each other as opposed to societies where hatred and anger are the order of the day. A part of the world with an environment that is conducive for innovation as opposed to a society brimming with illiteracy, stubbornness, and narrow mindedness.
Some may call it the resource curse. Others, neo-colonialism, even when opposing arguments suggest that the way of life, the culture of society, and the norms that the people hold dearly stand out as the main reason for their stagnation. So yes, Europe didn't under develop Africa, and we are where we are today because the standards set by our leaders are lacking. We are where we are today because a series of mistakes made currently and in the past by leaders in our society have had no solution. If any domineering forces meant to push us further down do exist, then we are the ones to blame for not having the right bargaining chips and not having something of our own to push us over the line.
If you come from the school of thought that believes in hard work, dedication and education as a means of bettering human intelligence, then you should go out of your way to stretch your mind and learn from like minded individuals.
