Government warns against December 9 demonstrations

The Government, through the Minister of Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, has called on the youth and citizens to maintain peace and avoid participating in demonstrations, stating that the country is still facing the severe effects of the October 29 protests.

Speaking on the night of November 28 at a peace entertainment event held at the Nyama Choma Market - Kumbilamoto, Vingunguti in Dar es Salaam, Simbachawene said those protests caused deaths, destruction of Government and private property, as well as the suspension of economic activities in various areas.

Furthermore, he warned regarding reports of plans for new demonstrations on December 9, 2025, emphasizing that the Government will not allow that situation to recur and asking citizens not to be incited to repeat past mistakes.

Public opinion:
Many have opposed this call, saying that if he were a better leader, he would have condemned with all his might the unlawful arrests of suspects, abductions, and killings that occurred during the election. They added that demonstrations are in accordance with the Constitution and that nothing will stop them from demonstrating on that day.

Others have said they did not choose leaders in this election because the election did not take place, so the current Government and he [the Minister] are not recognized. They stated that on December 9, true freedom will be achieved, and leaders from the people will be found; currently, they do not receive orders from any government leader.

Rufiji Police: We arrested Winfrida Charles for inciting the December 9 demonstrations; she was not abducted

The Police Force in Rufiji has issued a clarification regarding Winfrida Charles, a young woman who was initially alleged to have been abducted, with information circulating online, stating that she was not abducted but is a suspect of incitement. Winfrida, a graduate of Mzumbe University who held her graduation in November 2025, was arrested in the Kibiti Town area on suspicion of publishing and distributing information alleged to 'incite violence and the December 9 demonstrations' via social media.

According to the Police, Winfrida continues to be held, while legal measures proceed, and the force has urged citizens to be careful with the information they publish online to avoid spreading information that could cause panic in society.

Public opinion:
Many have continued to criticize the manner in which the Police arrest suspects without following procedure by taking suspects while wearing plain clothes, without identification, and without the leadership of the relevant area having information.

Furthermore, citizens claim that these days, the Police invade, especially at night, with weapons, private vehicles, and sometimes vehicles without registration number plates, and even the families of the suspects are not informed, leading them to assume the arrested person has been abducted. This leads citizens to raise their voices online, which is when the Police come forward and deny allegations of abduction, a matter that increasingly makes citizens believe that those abducting and killing civilians are the Police, which is why things do not change despite being spoken out against and complained about.

Others have shown annoyance with the Police's statements, calling demonstrations 'violence,' while saying that what is going to happen on December 9 is peaceful demonstrations, and that arresting citizens for encouraging demonstrations is oppression and a violation of the Constitution, as it is their right.

Security Forces spread out in the streets; many feel it is the heat of the December 9 demonstrations

Security Forces, including the Police and the Army, and Army helicopters have been seen in various areas of the country conducting patrols without official notice of their presence or the patrols, a matter that has raised many questions among citizens.

While this continues, leaders and Police from various parts of the country have been persuading and pleading with the youth not to participate in the December 9 demonstrations, emphasizing that peace is essential to the welfare of any country.

The relationship between citizens and music artists in Tanzania deteriorates further; concerts and song launches are postponed

Local Music artists in Tanzania appear to be facing a dire situation, as citizens continue to boycott their work. Those who had concerts to perform and launch activities in November and December have suspended them for a while; the mobilization of citizens to watch their work on YouTube has also dropped significantly.

On the other hand, citizens say they were told by those artists that they 'need to work and not cry that life is hard,' saying that now they [the citizens] have decided to work, and even they, the artists, need to work too; demanding they stop bothering citizens to listen to their songs or go to their concerts because it is a waste of time.

Is this the beginning of the fall of 'Bongo Flava' music, or perhaps the origin of another type of music and artists who are on the side of society when the Government oppresses the citizens?
