Police: We have arrested Clemence Mwandambo on Allegations of Sedition
The Police Force in the Mbeya Region has stated that it arrested online content creator and St. Clemence Pre-School Teacher, Clemence Kenani Mwandambo, a resident of Uzunguni "A", on allegations of issuing and spreading seditious and divisive statements through his Facebook and Instagram accounts. According to the Police statement, Mwandambo was arrested yesterday, November 21, 2025, at 5:20 AM, and police investigations are ongoing to enable legal action against him.
Previously, reports circulated on social media that Mwandambo was taken from his home by people identifying themselves as Police officers armed with firearms, who forced him into a vehicle and disappeared with him to an unknown location.
Before his arrest by the Police, Mwandambo had been creating various online content, much of which criticized the government and demanded accountability. A few days ago, he went to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) offices in the Mbeya Region to register, obtain a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), and be assessed as an online business operator.
Regarding the killings that occurred during the elections, Mwandambo was one of the people who openly condemned those acts and demanded that all those involved be held accountable.
Public Opinion:
Many citizens have criticized the Police's style of arrest, claiming it resembles that of abductors who take people while armed with firearms without having official identification. Citizens have also said that the Police have been using excessive force during arrests, a factor that leads them to believe that those carrying out abduction incidents may be security organs.
Additionally, others have complained about discrimination practiced by the Police by arresting people who criticize the government while leaving alone those who appear to commit offenses but lean towards the government or the ruling party. They cite the example of a Sheikh who said they would cut off the heads of those coming out to protest; citizens claim that had he been an opposition member or a citizen criticizing the government, he would have been arrested immediately and even charged with treason.
Bodaboda and Machinga in Dar: We Will Not Open Business on December 9
The Federation of Bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) and Bajaji (tricycle taxi) Drivers Associations, together with the Machinga (petty traders) Leadership in the Dar es Salaam region, have announced they will not work on December 9. They stated they received information that those wanting to protest will use their business areas and their groups, and then frame the Machinga and Bodaboda riders as being involved in those protests.
This stance was given at a 'conference to congratulate President Samia's speech delivered during the opening of the 13th Parliament in Dodoma', emphasizing that Bodaboda riders, Bajaji drivers, and Machinga want peace and tranquility in the country, as the violence being committed affects their businesses and economy.
Public Opinion:
Many have expressed skepticism regarding whether those who made the statement are truly Bodaboda riders, saying that if those leaders are not CCM (ruling party) members, then they have been given orders by CCM leaders to intimidate citizens who want to protest on December 9.
Some citizens claim that this group (Bodaboda and Bajaji drivers, along with Machinga) has been misused by politicians to spread political propaganda whenever there is citizen push-back, to show that many people in society support the government's actions.
BoT: Beware, There is an Increase in Counterfeit Currency
The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has urged citizens to increase their vigilance amid a 32.4% increase in counterfeit currency seizures (from 105 in 2023 to 139 in 2024), noting that counterfeiters are now using modern tactics.
During the 2025 election campaigns, reports circulated that the BoT had printed large amounts of money for the ruling party to use to bribe citizens into voting for Samia and other CCM candidates—claims the BoT denied.
Public Opinion:
Many have said that the claims of money being printed by the container-load might have been valid, and that this printed money is what they are now calling fake. This has led citizens to say that, aside from printing this fake money, they may have (perhaps) committed another crime by distributing it on the streets, and that they are now twisting the narrative, claiming criminals did it.
