Odero: Lissu's Imprisonment Does Not Prevent Reconciliation; Dialogue Can Resolve CHADEMA's Challenges

CHADEMA cadre Charles Odero has stated that political parties and the Government must sit at the negotiating table to strengthen political solidarity and advance national development. Speaking to the media, Odero said CHADEMA should not find it challenging to meet with the Government and President Samia for national reconciliation, even amid political challenges.

He explained that the challenges facing the party should not be an obstacle to political dialogue. Odero emphasized that dialogue can produce solutions even in difficult times, citing the period when former CHADEMA Chairman Freeman Mbowe was held on terrorism charges, when talks between CHADEMA leaders and President Samia opened a new political chapter in the country.

Public Opinion:
Many opposed this call, stating that reconciliation cannot occur without addressing fundamental demands involving justice. These include the release of political prisoners, an end to arbitrary arrests and abductions, accountability for killings and human rights violations during the elections, and the attainment of a New Constitution and an Independent National Electoral Commission.

Some felt that Odero had already been "bought" to help the Government persuade citizens to accept a government they did not elect and to engage in dialogue so they would forget what happened during the elections and move on. They called for Odero to be ignored and for citizens not to be distracted from fundamental issues.

Many harshly criticized those pushing reconciliation, interpreting it as propaganda or as an effort to ignore the people's pain. Some contributors used strong language, mockery, and insults to show their dissatisfaction with the direction of the debate.

Buyobe Released on Bail After Being Held at Chang'ombe Police Station

After a stakeholder from JamiiForums.com questioned the whereabouts of Fortunatus Buyobe—who had been arrested since December 6 by individuals identifying themselves as Police while authorities remained silent—Buyobe was finally released on bail a few hours later.

Buyobe was being held at the Chang'ombe Police Station.

Public Opinion:
Many continued to criticize police arrests for going against procedures and the laws of the land. Citizens are increasingly losing faith in the Police Force as the days go by. Some went as far as vowing on social media (TikTok and Instagram) to begin seeking revenge for the treatment they received from the Police. This sentiment raised concerns that the situation could worsen, as it creates space for the emergence of terrorist and criminal groups.

Some stated that the Chang'ombe Police Station needs to be investigated for being used as a "workshop" to hide people arrested arbitrarily, and some of those alleged to have been abducted. They cited the example of Deusdedith Soka and his colleagues, who were reportedly called to the station, where they were last seen.
