Tanzania doesn't grow at 7% after all. Data cooks

Numbers don't lie, economic growth does not equal to economic development. What matters is the size of economic growth inequality. I think low inequality can easily translate into economic development. So why bother with GDP? which can just incorporate large sum data from few individuals who even not Tanzanian. Because that is what GDP means.

The country with large income inequality, even if, it has a high GDP growth rate, the issue of economic development will be a horror nightmare. That is why there is an argument among economic scholars about the suitable measures of economic growth.

Therefore, it doesn't matter what someone says about economic growth, what matters is how does economic growth reduces income inequality among peoples in the country or communities. Or how faster does economic growth translate into economic development (welfare) of people.

So guys if we argue intellectually from this point of view, we can have a meaningful discussion.
Bora hata wewe imesema vile inatakiwa kueleka, some people here are glued on GDP figures even if they go to bed hungry with no money to buy food. One thing people are failing to look at is, where does the money brought in by GDP growth goes. Does it goes direct to people's pocket or it goes to finance other industries which are not directly linked to everyday person. Ethiopia have been growing at about 10% sometime even 11%, but how does that growth reflect to ordinary person.

I have actually thought economic growth and the size of GDP in African countries is not well measured because of the huge informal undocumented businesses..

So it may be larger than it's always documented.

Not even widening, Kenya is changing of which inaonekana, when you travel around the country after a year kuna visible and substantial change, unlike Tanzania and Uganda; apart from some major infrastructure development, the rest ni vile vile, am in Kampala now, was here 2007, mabadiliko ni kidogo sana and they have been "growing" by over 5% since 2007!! how???, we didn't have upper hill CBD in Nairobi like it is today, Nakuru and Kisumu didn't have flyovers, Outering, Northern and southern bypass pia were not there in Nai! SGR wasnt there, etc yani the change in Kenya inaonekana! and yet inasemekana our GDP was not growing that big like ya Tz na Uganda! Tanzania na Uganda wacheni kupika data! shughulikieni hali yenyu. Karibu Tz ujione, usi assume.

Kumbe wao ndio wanapika data. Right now their GDP is $56b Kenya $88b.The gap keeps widening.
Ghana wanawakimbiza $51b.And Kenya already surpassed Ethiopia which has $85b

I stumbled upon this thread where real Tanzanians outside Kenyan News talk about the real situation in Tanzania and it proved my suspicions right.

Uchumi wetu unakua kwa 7%? Uchambuzi wa viashiria (indicators) unaonyesha GDP inakua kwa 2%-3% tu- Zitto Kabwe - JamiiForums

I've always wondered how with growing at that rate all this time, the GDP gap between Kenya and Tz keeps widening.
To honestly our GDP grow stand 2%up 3% not 7% if we were grew up to that rate our Currently GDP must Stand at U$90Billions

Hii kwa kweli hunishangaza sana, yaani pengo linaongezeka tunawaacha nyuma ilhali wao wanadai kukua zaidi yetu...... Mtu anakimbia kwa kasi lakini yuko pale pale, hatua zake ndogo.

Kwa hivo wewe unajua kuliko the smartest member of Parliament in Tanzania? Yeye ana inside information na anajua kinachoendelea ndani ya serikali. IMF na World Bank zote hutoa data from your government.
Ahaa kumbe hata zile data zenu mnapika wenyewe ndio mnawatumia IMF na WB..!!

Kenyans steal Money meant for infrastructure and social services and use to build malls then they come and shout how the city is growing.

But people are starving while youth got zero jobs.

Utapata mall iko na golden plated walls halafu hamna barabara. Sewage nayo ndio hio inavuja na kumwaga barabara...
