The son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court today (23 February 2026) alongside a co-accused.
Bellarmine “Chatunga” Mugabe and another suspect were arrested after a 23-year-old gardener was shot at Mugabe’s Hyde Park home, north of Johannesburg, last week. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition in hospital.
The two face attempted murder charges and have been in custody at the Bramley police station since their arrest. Police are still searching for the firearm allegedly used in the shooting.
Security strategist Andy Mashaile has expressed concerns that the crime scene may have been compromised. He suggested that someone could have deliberately removed the weapon to contaminate the scene, describing it as a calculated effort to interfere with evidence and obstruct justice.
