Construction on the Standard Gauge Railway from Nairobi to Naivasha has kicked off after affected families received compensation.
Naivasha subcounty commissioner Isaac Masinde said Sh1.7 million was given to 11 families after their houses were demolished as a result of the construction.
"All the hurdles the project faced have been cleared and we expect works on the extension of the railways line to commence anytime," he added.
Speaking to residents in Mai Mahiu on Thursday, Masinde said the project would benefit the whole country and that the government was keen on making it successful.
"[It] will offer job opportunities to hundreds of youths and once complete, will open up Naivasha to investors."
At the same time, Masinde warned residents against surveyors claiming to be responsible for identifying and marking the SGR route.
He also warned leaders against inciting communities on compensation and supply of materials.
Nominated MCA Esther Njeri said the project should benefit everyone regardless of ethnic affiliation.
She noted instances where resources in Naivasha benefited particular communities, adding that it should not be the case with the SGR project.
