EMERGING LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
Scholarships for emerging business leaders
Internationally-recognised Masters degrees
A General Management MBA, or a M.Sc. with focus on agribusiness
Study in Denmark or South Africa
International experience and networking
Improved competitiveness in the globalised market
To contribute to the development of a productive private sector the ELSP offers scholarship support to outstanding emerging entrepreneurs and business leaders in Danidas Programme partner countries and South Africa. An internationally-recognised Masters degree will equip suitable candidates to further contribute to the growth of their home companies and of their nations economy in the globalised market. Female applicants are particularly encouraged to apply, as the ELSP recognizes the particular barriers facing potential female business leaders and innovators.
From 2009 the ELSP will offer scholarship support for an increasingly wider choice of internationally-accredited private-sector related Masters Degrees in Denmark or South Africa:
The General Management MBA at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Europes second largest business school. This is one of Europes highest ranked full-time MBA courses, with special focus on leadership, entrepreneurship and real world experience gained in a diverse international class of highly-motivated students. The course demands 12 months full-time and intensive study in Denmark, starting September 2009.
CBS - Copenhagen Business School | Full time MBA
The M.Sc. (Agricultural Economics), with focus on Agribusiness, at the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. The University of Copenhagen is ranked number 12 in Europe and number 48 in the world. Starting in August 2009 the course takes 24 months and combines full-time study in Denmark with thesis-writing and practical application of knowledge in the scholars home environment.

Internationally-accredited Business Schools in Sub-Saharan Africa will be included in the ELSP as soon as negotiations are completed in early 2009. So far four such schools have been identified, all in South Africa, including Capetown, Witwatersrand, Stellenbosch, and the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria. Eligible applicants
The ELSP is open to applicants from Danidas Programme partner countries: Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zambia. The ELSP is also open to applicants from South Africa
Target group
Younger entrepreneurs and emerging business leaders in Danida Programme countries and South Africa. Applicants will come from locally-owned private-sector companies engaged in business management and entrepreneurship, the financial and banking sector including microfinancing, business associations, legislative and regulatory bodies, and academic and training institutes contributing to private sector development.
Amount of ELSP scholarship support
ELSP scholarships will normally cover 90 per cent of the total cost of tuition, travel, residence, living expenses, and insurance for the duration of the selected Masters course.
Please note that due to the intensive study programme and to regulatory constraints, applicants should not expect to be accompanied by family members whilst studying. All scholarships will be calculated on the basis of one participant only.
Costs of study
The budgeted total cost of completing a MBA at CBS is approx. DKK 403,500 in 2008/2009. The total cost of a M.Sc. at the University of Copenhagen will be similar, depending on the individual students mix of study periods in Copenhagen and field work/thesis writing at home. Applicants choosing to obtain their Masters in Denmark should thus normally be prepared to cover up to about DKK 40,000 from external sponsors or from personal resources.
The budget for a MBA at a South African university will be somewhat lower than the cost of study in Denmark. Full details will be published early 2009 when negotiations have been completed with the intended host universities.
ISBN 978-87-7087-109-9
