About ATEHA​

The African Transformation on Environmental and Health Action (ATEHA) is a registered nongovernmental organization based in Arusha, Tanzania, dedicated to addressing environmental and public health challenges through research, education, advocacy, and community engagement. ATEHA works to promote sustainable development, protect ecosystems, and improve health outcomes across African communities, with a strong focus on environmental health risks such as pesticide exposure and climate change impacts.

Position Overview​

ATEHA is seeking a qualified and motivated Programme Officer – Environmental Expert to support the design, implementation, and management of environmental and public health programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to research, policy advocacy, and community-based interventions aimed at improving environmental sustainability and health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities​

• Lead and support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of environmental programmes and projects.
• Conduct research and provide technical expertise on environmental health issues, including chemical and pesticide exposure.
• Support development of policy briefs, reports, and advocacy materials.
• Engage with stakeholders including government agencies, communities, and partners.
• Facilitate community outreach, training, and awareness programmes.
• Monitor and evaluate project performance and impact.
• Contribute to proposal writing and resource mobilization efforts.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental standards and frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience​

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Health, or related field.
• At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental programmes or projects.
• Strong understanding of environmental health issues, including chemicals and pesticide risks.
• Experience in research, data analysis, and report writing.
• Proven experience working with NGOs, government institutions, or development partners.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Additional Requirements​

• Must be based in Arusha, Tanzania (or willing to relocate).
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); Kiswahili is an added advantage.
