I salute you.
Today i had a bitter argument in one of my chat groups and would like to pose the same questions i had posed this morning.
We all have heard the Ugandans are doing their solar powered bus (KIIRA) and Tanzania are going to manufacture their own helicopters right?
The question is,does this make our country lag behind if we were to base on these developments by the neighbors or we have priorities to sort out before we head their way
Leteni maoni na mkumbuke siko hapa kuandika kwa kizungu ya Shakespeare.

I don't know how far ahead our neighbours are with local manufacturing but looking at the stuff we import, machinery takes a huge chunk and we'll be far ahead if we start manufacturing our own.

But every-time we come up with similar inventions/innovations we are always quashed almost immediately by the same neighbors, claiming that we are only assembling as opposed to manufacturing.

Note that our Mobius vehicle is already on the streets, practically in use. But Tanzanian's chopper will have to wait until it can even spin the rotor, let alone lifting up from the ground.

i quote a kenyan guy..
serikali yetu is on an infrastructure improvement spree, barabara zijengewe, stima naona inasambazwa everywhere, SGR inajengwa, watoto wanapata laptops digital literacy will improve, South Korea promised to help build a campo at Konza, Tatu city inajengwa, Lappset inaanziwa mafuta yetu Turkana will find easier efficient transport means, Nairobi more roads are built to ease the traffic problem, akina Nyanza more roads are getting constructed fishermen will be able to easily move their fish, hadi Marsabit kumejengwa Lami, Juzi Garisa got connected to the National grid.

10 years from now tuone akina nani watakuwa mbele.
Priorities muhimu vitu zingine achia private sector, gova should only create policies za kuwasaidia hao watu wa private sector.

Mbona haueleweki eleweki, though jina la Kikenya lakini unawaza kama Mtanzania. Fahamu katiba imeweka wazi majukumu ya serikali haswa kwenye miundo mbinu. Yaani una maana serikali isijenge SGR ama mbona sikuelewi.

Ukitulia utamuelewa...! Usiwe kama mkenya hehehe

On a serious note, ukitulia ukasoma alichoandika utamuelewa na utajishangaa ulichosema in your last sentence is what the guy was talking about.

That's why despite kiira having a luxurious vehicle, Mobius made more sense, because it targets Africa, made for our roads, strong engine, and it can be mass produced,,it is being mass produced. I have seen mobius vehicles, they are loved by the private security firms... and the villagers.
this is prudent to create a trusted clientele and get back your money, before coming up with new versions. actually mobius has a 2.0 now..it is prettier, obviously more comfy.

Are they cost effective?

Before you build a car, you need a road on which to drive the car. Before you give kids laptops you need proper stone made schools and teachers in the first place (missprioritization there). Before you build choppers and techno cities you need learned pilots and geeks to utilize them. The list goes on and on but what I'm saying is get the basics right first before you venture into the complexities. And to some extent that's what the GoK is doing which is good

They cost around 900k to 1.2mil... I would say they are, when you buy 1, they also pimp it up for you according to your request
Bado ni costful for a local made vehicle, majority wont afford that price.,and after pimping like u said itakuwa above that.
There comes the cost of production..
Governments need to implement strategies for cheap electricity.....
Let's keep importing Japanese Toyota at meantime ,
I wish I could drive Möbius one day.

what? an average vehicle costs around 800k, I think the pricing is reasonable considering the dollar is trading at 101 and it is not a must for you to make changes to the vehicle if you can not afford the cost...you lost me when you seem to prefer imported vehicles, when Toyota has made moves to create Assembly stations in Kenya. The ingredient that has been missing in Kenya is the Manufacturing sector. I wish to drive Mobius one day too.

Like I said, what matters is that Mobius is already on the streets, production has begun enmasse, investors have bought into the idea. The vehicle was made for Africa, its niche is unique and not meant to compete with Japanese, not immediately, may be later when they come up with a different prototype.

But the fact that the assembly is operational, and they are making sales, everything else will fall into place slowly. Lots of experiences and skills are being garnered. Lessons are being learnt and only a matter of time before they strike it home.
