A thirteen year old girl is fighting for her life in a private hospital after she was defiled repeatedly on Wednesday by a senior KDF officer in Gilgil.

The minor who was working as a house help was rushed to hospital while bleeding profusely from her private parts after a three hour ordeal by the officer. Police officers have arrested the KDF officer as area leaders condemned the incident, demanding for justice for the minor. A witness who declined to be named said that the couple who housed the minor were living in GG estate near Gilgil town where the incident occurred.

"The couple had left for their place of work when the suspect who is a soldier returned and repeatedly abused the minor leaving her for the dead," said the witness. The witness added that they were attracted by screams and a trail of blood from the house and informed police who moved in and took the minor to hospital.

Gilgil Children’s officer Eunice Njuguna confirmed the incident adding that the minor was in great pain but under medication.

Njuguna said that they were seeking for a safe-house where the girl would be housed while recovering as they sought her parents. "The minor had been employed as a house help when the incident occurred and we are investigating how she kept out of school before taking the necessary measures," she said. Speaking on phone, Gilgil OCPD Sarah Koki confirmed the arrest adding that the suspect would be charged with various offences in court.

"The suspect has since been arrested after the incident while the minor is under the care of children officer recuperating," she said. Meanwhile, the director of children affairs in the county Yusuf Sheikh Abdi has expressed concern over increased cases of child abuse and neglect in the region. Speaking after touring the newly opened Naivasha Child Protection Center, Abdi identified Naivasha and Gilgil sub-counties as the most affected by the cases. He said that in the just concluded financial year, the county recorded over 11,000 cases with Naivasha sub-county leading at 2,750.
