Mzee Nathan Okori, the father of former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, has passed away at the age of 97.
According to reports, Okori died on March 20, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, where he had been admitted two days earlier with respiratory complications.(Daily Monitor reports)
His death comes exactly four years after the passing of his son, marking a difficult moment for the family and the nation.
Justice & Constitution Affairs Minister Norbert Mao, a close friend of the late Oulanyah, confirmed the news, describing the timing as “uncanny” and expressing sorrow over the loss.
Mzee Okori first gained national attention in April 2022 during Oulanyah’s burial in Omoro District, where he publicly disputed the official cause of his son’s death. While authorities had attributed it to cancer, Okori alleged that his son had been poisoned which remarks sparked widespread public debate at the time.
Despite the controversy, many remember Mzee Okori as a vocal and devoted father who stood firmly by his beliefs during a period of national mourning.
His passing adds another chapter of grief to the Oulanyah family, with leaders and members of the public already sending in condolences. Burial arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course.
