Ouattara inaugurated in Ivory Coast

Alassane Ouattara has been solemnly inaugurated as president of Ivory Coast after a deadly post-election crisis that claimed nearly 3000 lives.

"This morning we face the world, ourselves and our destiny," Ouattara said at the ceremony attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, President Nicolas Sarkozy of former colonial power France and many African leaders.

"Let us celebrate peace, without which there can be no development," said the 69-year-old Ouattara, who took the oath of office on May 6 some four weeks after outgoing president Laurent Gbagbo was arrested for refusing to cede power.

Surprisingly, the same authority that denied him of victory was the one that also declared him president. So does this mean the presidential oath he took in his Golf hotel office after the election was obsolete? That he was an illegitimate president, right? So Gbagbo and his gang were right in referring to Ouattara and allies as 'rebels'? So practically speaking, it was Ouattara who toppled Gbagbo in an armed coup d'etat. This is how 'democracy' confuses me in Africa.

Kithuku.. if you did your homework a little bit you'd find out that Ouattara's presidency was actually confirmed a couple of weeks back by the same guy that inaugurated Gbagbo, Paul Yao N'Dre.. today was only the ceremony... There is no where Gbagbo was right.. Ouattara is the rightfully chosen president of Cote d'Ivoire..
@Mzee2000 The people of Cote d'Ivoire chose Ouattara regardless of the race of his wife... You need to climb back into the hole you escaped from...

what we are seeing is just fictious democracy. That president of your is just stray dogs that Gadafi was refering to. We will be colonised forever in this style.

You will stay colonized and poor if you stay on that jaundiced pan-African train.. This world is globalized. You have work with all and get the best from anyone who is willing to help... I can understand you are bitter somehow.. However, people in Cote d'Ivoire voted and when some village chief tried to disenfranchise them of their god-given right to chose their leader, the international community intervened and did the right thing...
Why don't you go join the fight for Gadaffi and be a real son of Africa then?
