EIGHT months is a long time in the East African energy sector. Last August, Uganda and Kenya finalised a route for a pipeline to take oil from reserves in landlocked Uganda to the Kenyan port of Lamu, seemingly making good on a long-standing plan. But by March, Uganda said it was considering an alternative route to Tanga on the Tanzanian coast. By April the two countries had sealed the deal. The schedule for the Tanzanian pipeline should see construction start later this year, for completion by 2020. If that happens it will mark the culmination of a long battle by the international oil companies operating in Uganda to monetise oil first discovered in the Albertine Graben section of the East

TPA kujenga matangi ya kuhifadhia mafuta

Mamlaka ya Usimamizi wa Bandari nchini (TPA) imepanga kutumia Dola 110.45 milioni za Marekani kujenga gati na matangi ya kuhifadhia mafuta ghafi yatakayokuwa yakisafirisha na bomba la mafuta la kutoka Uganda.

Fedha hizo zitatokana na vyanzo vya ndani ya mapato vya TPA na zitatumika kwa miaka mitatu tofauti huku kila mwaka ikitumia Dola 30 milioni za Marekani.

Ofisa Mkuu wa Idara ya Mipango ya TPA,Alfred Matuntelo ametoa taarifa hiyo leo wakati wa mkutano wa maandalizi ya awali ya kupokea mradi wa ujenzi wa bomba la mafuta ghafi kutoka Uganda uliofanyika jijini Tanga.

Akizungumza katika mkutano huo uliokuwa chini ya uenyekiti wa Mkuu waMkoa wa Tanga,Martine Shigela na kuhudhuriwa na maofisa waandamizi kutoka Wizara ya Nishati na Madini,Wizara ya Ardhi Nyumba na Maendeleo ya Makazi na Shirika la Maendeleo ya Petroli (TPDC) amesema ujenzi huo unatarajiwa kuendeshwa kwa kipindi cha miaka mitatu.

President Magufuli, Museveni to Lay Oil Pipeline Foundation Stone

Tanga — President John Magufuli and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni are scheduled to lay a foundation stone for the construction of the Uganda oil pipeline, officials have said.

At a briefing with Tanga regional leaders Thursday, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) director general James Mataragio said they are yet to determine the exact place in Tanga where the stone would be laid.

He did not give a specific date but told the meeting attended by Tanga regional commissioner Martine Shigela the function would happen "soon".

The deal for Uganda to take its oil to the market through Tanga port was finally sealed in April this year after a backroom tug-of-war pitting Tanzania against Kenya.

Mr Mataragio said President Magufuli and his Ugandan counterpart signed the deal for the commencement of the $4 billion project last month on the sidelines of President Museveni's swearing in ceremony in Kampala.

burukenge, which feasibility study do we need aside the one that won Tanzania the pipeline deal? Total undertook a study via a German company! As a matter of fact it is Kenya that needs a feasibility study from Lokichar to Lamu to convince AfDB to issue her a loan for a project that looks a white elephant. BTW launching date for this project has even been shifted to earlier dates before August.
