Police in Mukono District are investigating the murder of Tumwebaze Pamela (46), the Director of Students’ Affairs(DOSA) at Uganda Christian University (UCU), who was allegedly strangled by an unknown assailant at her home in Ganvu West Cell, Seeta Ward, Goma Division.

Police established that the deceased lived with her two children, Elijah and Noah (aged between 10 and 13), and a house help, Lwantale Sharifah (20).

According to police records file number Mukono CRB 195/2026, information about the incident was received on 11 February 2026 at about 0500 hrs. Police believe that the attacker gained entry into the house at 2200 hrs when the house help, Lwantale, was opening the gate for Tumwebaze as she returned home with her children. The police believe that the assailant must have snuck into the house and hidden until the family locked the gate and doors to the house and went to bed, not knowing that the assailant was in the house.

In a statement to investigators, Lwantale reported that at about 0300 hours, she heard footsteps inside the house and went to check, where she encountered the assailant, whom she described as a tall, dark-skinned man. The man was dressed in Pamela’s clothing and a sweater with the hood on.

The suspect demanded the keys to the main door, saying he wanted to leave because he was locked in. Lwantale, frightened, initially refused and asked him to identify himself. The assailant then told her, “Come and ask your boss Pamela whether she does not know me.”

Lwantale stated that when she approached Pamela’s room, she saw her lying motionless on the bed, partly covered with clothing, which made her suspect something was wrong. She ran and locked herself in the children’s bedroom with the children.

After some time, believing the assailant had left, Lwantale went back to Pamela’s room and found her still lying in the same position, unresponsive.

Tumwebaze was later rushed to Mukono Namirembe Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A team led by ASP Alituha, OC Mukono Police Station, together with Scene of Crime Officers, visited and documented the scene.

The suspect is also reported to have fled with a laptop bag containing unknown items, and the deceased’s mobile phone (0782409072) was reported missing.

Police investigations into the murder are ongoing.

Tumwebaze has been described by many as a mentor who loved her children, students and the Lord with all her heart.

She had preached about forgiveness and repentance during UCU community worship hour the day before.

The UCU community described her as a mother.

“She was always there for anyone that needed her. She always supported us. She would come and watch us play. She never chased anyone out of her office.” said Prisca Namulimdwa, a student at UCU, amidst heavy sobs.

She will be laid to rest on Saturday February 15 in Keigoshora Rubaya Kashari, Mabara district.
