Nothing special with political gimmicks! Kenya launched this same project a year before apart from the LAPSSET and Tatu city under Kibaki and todate no single km has been accomplished for SGR while no pole has been erected as for Tatu City and LAPSSET! Until Mseveni gets the US$ 8 billion he asked the Chinese nothing will happen, take that to the bank!
The Kenyan SGR is already underway. Please take that to the bank too. Just visit and see.Nothing special with political gimmicks! Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday launched the country's Standard Gauge Railway. Rwandan President Paul Kagame and South Sudan's President Salva Kiir joined Museveni in launching the Malaba - Kampala section of the railway.
Uganda's Standard Gauge Railway is part of the Northern Corridor intergration projects that begin from Mombasa through Nairobi, to Kampala, Kigali and Juba.
President Museveni said that the railway will address the question of cost.
"We are here to launch our region into a new era of cheaper transport and electricity" Museveni said.
Museveni further said that the the East African community is on the right track when member states work together on such projects.
"We are moving into the real business of developing our country," he added.
He further thanked the Chinese Government and other Chinese agencies for their support in building the railway.
Freight transit times are expected to be reduced from Mombasa - Kampala from the current 14 days to one day after the railway is built.
Uganda's Minister of State Works John Byabakambi said he is optimistic that the government will achieve the Standard Gauge Railway time-line set for 2018.
