This comes barely a week after a Russian lawmaker also proposed a ban on high heels saying they are bad for people's health and it's time to do something about it.
Izvestia, a Russian newspaper, said the number of female officers trimming their skirts has been on the rise.
Deputy Interior Minister Sergei Gerasimov told Izvestia that the move undermines and discredits the police force.
"When you meet people, the first thing you see is their clothing, and for a police officer fulfilling his duties, it is crucial to have a tidy and neat appearance," he said.
Male police officers were also warned against cutting off sleeves and incorporating civilian clothing into their uniform.
In Kenya, Linda Okello, a policewoman who drew public attention because of her tight skirt, sued the National Police Commission claiming that she was subjected to an unfair, unreasonable, skewed, flawed and unlawful inquiry. (READ: Linda Okello in court over dressing style)
