Microsoft has officially introduced the use of cloud computing technology to entrepreneurs and various organizations in Tanzania that will enable them to efficiently store massive data without any inconvenience.
Cloud technology provides the ability to save files or run applications for external host servers. It can connect computers over a network and has the ability to run a program on many connected computers at the same time.
Tanzania Microsoft Eastern and Southern Africa, Head of Business Kisamba Tambwe said that the new cloud technology would allow business owners and its employees to access stored information anywhere around the country.
“We therefore encourage various companies to make use of the cloud infrastructure as it reduces the cost of Information Technology (IT) ,it is convenient, flexible and has scalability,” he said.
"We've already started working with various companies in Tanzania on cloud computing and the response is quite satisfying but we still want more organizations to join the technology."
He said that so far the rate of adoption of this technology and the number of users of internet in Tanzania has become high. In previous years almost half of the population were connected to the cloud technology.
Meanwhile, Robin Njiru, The Regional Manager, Channel and Midmarket Microsoft East and Southern Africa said that currently Microsoft has 19 data centers around the world, “we install data centers in countries that are politically stable with security, peace and other related developmental issues.''
He added that taking into consideration that they are targeting companies, entrepreneurs and institutions to join the cloud technology as it is dynamically scalable, and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet.
“Users need not have knowledge of expertise on how to control the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that it supports, instead Microsoft would be much reasonable.” he said.
According to him, cloud costs are changeable, whatever time you need data you can access the information, therefore this is the right time for companies to join the technology.
The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on how the Internet is depicted in computer network diagrams, and it is an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals.

Google is an example of cloud computing with the use of Gmail and its 'Drive' which consists of 'Google Docs' and forms.
