The ANC may have to apologise to yet another African country after a faux pas from one of its leaders.


Speaking at a breakfast briefing with editors in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning, Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula had a case of foot in mouth syndrome regarding Kenya's sporting acumen.


Mbalula was addressing journalists around the theme of social cohesion, when a reporter questioned the issue of some national teams remaining stubbornly white.



"You can't transform sports without targets," said Mbalula who has battled with the issue of racial quotas for some time. But at the same time, South Africa wouldn't be like Kenya and send athletes to the Olympics to "drown in the pool", he said in one bizarre moment that reminded some of ANC president Jacob Zuma's own faux pas over Malawian roads.


The comment was met with some titters in the room and an embarrassed grin from the rest of the assembled ANC leaders. The comment also drew some alarm on Twitter.


Arrogance
The statement was regarded as characteristic of a general arrogance against the rest of the continent from South Africans, that was reflected in the ANC and its leaders.


"Zuma is merely airing an often shy and hidden reality of the perceptions and arrogance that many South Africans share," Ebrahim Fakir, a political analyst, told the Daily Maverick at the time.



The attitude is a slap in the face for many African countries who provided much support to the ANC in exile during apartheid.



If our diplomats are summoned in Kenya to explain the remark, let's hope an apology will be quickly forthcoming.

Not a wise remark I might say.., but there is some element of truthfulness (not about Kenya ofcourse)..., People should not be discriminated in a sport because of a color of their skin.., but likewise they should not be chosen just because they are a certain color. The only choice should be if they are good or bad..

Why should it matter if all team they are white (if they are better than their fellow black) or if all the team they are black (if they are better than their fellow whites) and lets not forget due to historical reasons some sports are more predominantly whites or blacks
 

This minister seems to be related to Geza Ulole can he give a recorded account of a case where a Kenyan athlete drowned abroad. I am only aware of Gold medal won by them every-time, our flag flying high, our national anthem having to be listened the world over. That's all I do remember.

Mbulala was responding to a question about racial
quotas in South African sport but he veered off topic by
insulting Kenyan athletes.

He started by saying racial transformation in sport
cannot be achieved without targets but then ended with
the words South Africa would not be like Kenya and
send athletes to the Olympics “to drown in the pools”

MY OPINION :
the "tweef" is still trending and i dont think this round kenyans will win.if i can remember,their last twetter war was with tanzania.

To Peter James, a waiter at the Night Park Bar at Mianzini along the Arusha-Nairobi highway, Sunday, April 13 was just another cheerful day. He was happy and motivated serving revelers from across Arusha who patronize the side-road popular bar and restaurant.
Faithful patrons' turnout for that particular night was also promising as the English Premier League was featuring Liverpool vs Manchester City, both commanding a large following of fans in Arusha.
Peter's excitement was suddenly shattered at 7.30pm when a deafening blast set everybody in the bar hall on their heels and scampering to get out of the hall. Little did they know that the blast at the game breather was caused by what Police later described as a homemade bomb.
"I was close to the devise that exploded. It jerked and set me running only to realize later that my legs were after all seriously injured and could not carry me any longer," said Peter who was by Tuesday still admitted at the Mount Meru Regional Hospital. He said he believed someone had earlier placed the bomb and left the premises. He was close to the centre of the hub of the explosion, but did not see anyone plant a device.
Anterus Vincent, a resident of Sanawari who is also admitted at the Mount Meru hospital said he is an ardent football fun especially of the world class teams. His favourite venue for watching football is the Arusha Night Park Bar which is about two kilometers from his home. However, his day was brutally spoiled by the blast. His right leg was injured by shrapnel. When The Arusha Times visited him at the hospital on Monday he said he was improving and out of danger. He was quick to thanked God for that.
Bar Manager Halima Mushi was no at the premises when the blast occurred. "At 7.30pm I received a call from one of the workers but I could not follow the caller conversation or understand what was happening as people were screaming."
After five minutes she arrived at the scene only to find a crowd outside the premises. Inside the bar hall some people were lying on the floor. She mobilized vehicles that took 10 of the wounded to Selian and Mount Meru hospitals. Others were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital. Police arrived at the scene soon after the blast and cordoned off the area.
According to Arusha's Regional Commissioner Magessa Mulongo a total of 15 people were injured in the blast. Investigations were immediately launched which involve experts from the Police headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
Arusha Night Park Bar which also commands the allure of charming maids, conspicuously heavy at the seat, was not the only target of the attackers. The Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Isaya Mngulu said on the same night of the blast, police were informed at midnight that a suspicious abandoned bag was found at the next bar common by the name of Washington.
Mr. Mngulu told reporters on April 15 investigations showed that the abandoned bag also contained a homemade explosive device. It did not explode at Washington bar where it was seemingly intended to wreck havoc.
Police have named some of the injured victims of the Arusha Night Park explosion as Sudi Ramadhani, Joyce William, Evans Charles Maleko, Loyce John, Evarist Richard and Petro Shayo. Others are Antelus Vincent Ishengoma, Suzan Jacob, Mariam Juvenary Hans, Nathan Charles, Steven Cosmas and Gilbert Nkya.
Police meanwhile, have posted a Tsh.10 million reward to anyone with information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals connected with the Sunday night explosion.
This is the third bombing incident in Arusha in a span of two years. Three people were killed last year when a bomb was thrown onto a crowd during the official launch of a Roman Catholic Church at Olasisiti, south of the city. Also on June 5 last year a bomb blast shattered an election rally by the opposition party Chadema.

(Reuters) - Homemade bombs went off near a cathedral and a restaurant popular with tourists on Monday on the semi-autonomous and mainly Muslim Zanzibar islands, where sectarian tensions have been mounting, a police spokesman said.
There were no casualties, Zanzibar police spokesman Mohammed Mhina said. But one tour operator on the island, who asked not to be identified, said at least one person had been wounded.
The Indian Ocean islands are a growing headache for the Tanzanian government because of religious tensions and deep social and economic divisions. Last year there were several attacks on Christian leaders, tourists and churches.

"There were two explosions which occurred at around 1 p.m. this afternoon. The explosions were caused by makeshift bombs," the police spokesman said, without saying who was behind the attacks.
One bomb went off next to an Anglican cathedral near Zanzibar's capital Stone Town, while another at about the same time exploded at a restaurant in the city popular with tourists, he added.
Many Muslims living along Tanzania's coast feel marginalized by the secular government, providing fertile recruitment grounds for Islamist groups such as al Shabaab, which operates in Somalia further north on Africa's east coast.
Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete has warned that religious tensions threaten peace in the nation of 45 million people.
Two Christian leaders were killed in Zanzibar last year in separate attacks and there have been arson attacks on churches.
In September, a Roman Catholic priest was the target of an acid attack, while a month earlier two men threw a corrosive liquid over two British teenagers in Zanzibar.
The incidents have hit Tanzania's image as a tourist-friendly destination, hurting a vital industry.

alshabaab has no interest in tanzania,their common interest is kenya and kenyans.
