THE leader of Glory of Christ of Tanzania Church, Bishop Josephat Gwajima, left the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in a happy mood after the court refused to accept, as exhibit, a CD-video tape allegedly showing how he abused Cardinal Polycarp Pengo.
Senior Resident Magistrate Cyprian Mkeha ruled that the prosecution failed to bring the person who had recorded the CD in which Bishop Gwajima is claimed to have given abusive words to the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Dar es Salaam Diocese.
Following such ruling, the magistrate adjourned the trial to May 4, for continuation of the hearing of the case. Immediately thereafter, Gwajima and his followers who were in dark suit, left the court premises with a sign of praising God.
They chanted “Yesu, Yesu….” or “Jesus, Jesus….” Memorandum of facts of the case shows that between March 16 and 25, last year, Gwajima was preaching his followers at Tanganyika Packers Grounds at Kawe area in Kinondoni District, where his church holds Sunday masses.
While preaching, Gwajima allegedly used abusive and insulting language to Cardinal Pengo. According to the prosecution, the accused person was video-recorded while uttering such words and the same was circulated through social networks.
The prosecution informed the court further that Bishop Gwajima was summoned and appeared at the Central Police Station on March 27, this year, for questioning before his arraignment on the offence he is currently facing.
Gwajima has admitted some of the facts, including his name and leader of the church and that he had appeared before the police before being taken to the court to face the criminal charge. He denied other particulars of the offence.
