Kenya on Thursday recorded 650 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's total to 28,754, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi has confirmed.
The new positives were drawn from the 6,768 people whose samples were tested within 24 hours.
This brings the country's cumulative total tests to 375,859.
From the new cases, 633 were Kenyans while 17 were foreigners.
Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing, Mwangangi said in terms of gender, 391 were male and 259 were female. Age wise, the youngest was a one -year-old infant while oldest was 97 years old.
Some 490 patients from 23 counties have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country so far to 15,100.
A total of 308 of those discharged were from the home-based programme, while 182 were discharged from various health facilities.
Kenya has in the last seven days recorded the highest number of recoveries. As a result, there are more recoveries than active cases for the first time.
However, four more patients succumbed to the virus, raising fatalities in the country to 460.
As the 154th day since the pandemic struck the country, Mwangangi noted that the diagnostic capacity has been standardized and scaled up.
"A total of 33 public and private laboratories in 12 counties are currently conducting tests for Covid-19. Cumulatively 896,612 individuals have been screened across all points of entry from January 21 to August 7," she said.
