Kenyan delegation in study tour of rapid bus system

Dar es Salaam. The delegation of ten people, representing commuter bus companies from Kenya are here in the city for two day study tour of the Dar es Salaam bus rapid transit system.

The delegation is visiting Dar es Salaam to learn of the city's experience in the construction and operation of the Dart system and find how a similar system could be adopted in Nairobi.

The Secretary of the Association of Bus Operators in Kenya Mr Gutheiga Weri told reporters today, August 30, that they have decided to come and learn from Dar city because it shares same characteristics with Nairobi when it comes to transport challenges and population.

"I believe that we can use the experience of what Dar es Salaam has done on Dart system and apply it in Nairobi to reduce the traffic jams which is currently a terrible nightmare to commuters,” he said.

On the other hand, the Dart acting executive director Mr Ronald Lwakatare told the delegation that despite some of its challenges the rapid transit system can be a real solution to traffic jams.

I hope they drop that notion before they get back. BRT may be working in Dar but if they try it in Nairobi it will flop. Time to invest in LRT

safi sana...BRT poa sana...ni usafiri wa kisasa ila sijui kama inawiana vema na jiji la Nairobi...we will just have to wait and see...by the way my fellow kenyans, LRT initial phase is planned only for airport to CBD through Syokimau so lets admit that we need high-capacity buses instead of matatus...tuweke ushabik kando my fellow countrymen...these buses are neat, quiet and are cheaper compared to the chaos we have...they employ a tight schedule and have special lanes...even though a poor country,hii BRT has lifted the status of Daresalaam tremendously...we need to adopt it in some places if not the whole of Nairobi...just imagine a combination of LRT and BRT...what a city we shall have! some roads like Outer Ring already have the dedicated lanes for BRT so I say lets do it even though govt hasnt even committed anything to BRT..these are just private businessmen..

Wanaweza wakafanya parallel hakuna ubaya, kumbuka BRT ni cheaper hasa kwa low income countries ambapo Kenya ni mjoa wapo!

Hio delegation 95% ni wanabiashara binafsi yani private sector na wala si serekali, just imajin, campuni binafsi za hapa hapa kenya za mabasi zinataka kuanzisha BTR, ni siku gani campuni za daladala huko bongo zitakua na nguvu kama hio? Ndo ujue kweli kenya ni bingwa ikija kwa mambo ya biashara

i think the private businessmen want to do this...and I dont think it will work since they dont have dedicated lanes...

lol! relax ninaitetea BRT yenu...ila ni kweli Tanzania ni nchi maskini ama unataka pia tubishe jambo straight kama hii....most countries in africa are poor including Kenya and TZ...so relax dude...I havent said anything new...or you want me to lie that Tanzania is a rich country? lol! any country with a per capita income of less than $1000 is a poor country no matter who they feed...BTW Africa feeds Europe but does that now mean that Europeans are poor and Africa is rich?

by the way, serikali yenyewe ndio ilisema BRT haiwez ikafanya kazi Nairobi kupitia waziri wa usafiri...kisha wakasema wataleta LRT...huyo jamaa ako right...most of them are private sector...

Not true, even major cities have both BRT and LRT, even if your GoK will implement LRT I am sure it won't cover even 20% of Nairobi, you will eventually need buses, which I recommend Modern ones not only to efficiently move masses but also to beautify Nairobi.
Improvement of Public transport systems is a very crucial step to decongest traffic jams.
Kama ni Trams ama whatever, kuwe na organised commuters for the public.

Tanzania is looking to Kenya to develop its geothermal potential. A delegation of MPs and State officials is in the country on a one-week tour to learn from Kenya’s expertise in harnessing the renewable energy resource.

Speaking on his tour of the Menengai Geothermal Project in Nakuru, the head of delegation and Chairman of the Tanzanian Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Mining Mr Victor Mwambalaswa said, Tanzania is looking to accelerate its geothermal portfolio to shore up electricity production.

“Kenya already has a classic model of geothermal production that we need to replicate in Tanzania,” Mwambalaswa said.
