According to a statement released by Uganda Police, the Joint Security Task Team investigating the case has successfully apprehended one of the prime suspects linked to the murder.

The suspect, identified as Taewaiko Dak Hussein, was arrested on Friday, 14th February 2026, at his hideout in Budaka District. Police confirmed that at the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of the deceased’s phone, a development investigators describe as a critical piece of evidence directly linking him to the crime.

Preliminary findings further reveal that the suspect previously worked as a house help to the late Tumwebaze, a detail investigators believe may be central to understanding the circumstances surrounding the killing.

In its official communication, Uganda Police stated that investigations remain ongoing and that additional updates will be provided as progress is made. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details regarding possible accomplices or the motive behind the murder.

Tumwebaze was killed in the early hours of 11 February 2026 at her home in Mukono District after returning home with her two sons, Elijah and Noah.

Police say the attacker strangled her while she slept, and was encountered by the house help who woke up to footsteps in the house. When asked to identify himself, the assailant invited the housekeeper to the bedroom and asked her boss whether she didn’t know him.

As the house help approached the bedroom, they saw Tumwebaze lying motionless on the bed, partially covered in clothes. She ran to the children’s bedroom and barricaded herself with them until the assailant left. She rushed to Tumwebaze’s aid afterwards and found her unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators noted that items, including her laptop and phone, were taken, and that there were no immediate signs of forced entry, raising questions about how the perpetrators gained access to the home.
