Job Category: Engineering TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER
Reporting to the General Manager we seek to appoint a Technical Services
Manager at our Bulyanhulu gold mining operation in Tanzania.
The Technical Services Manager will be responsible to provide effective
management and leadership of the Technical Services team at
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine to ensure:
o Cost effective and efficient mine strategy, planning and UG Engineering and
Geology support to the mining operations for the optimum extraction of the
orebodies by achieving the Company objectives; and,
o Estimation and evaluation of the resources and reserves compliant with the
relevant Securities legislation.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
o Develop and implement annual Mining Operations cost budgets and
production plans in accordance with the Bulyanhulu Long Term Strategic Plan,
and to meet the regional deadlines for submission.
o Prepare (and operate within) annual cost budgets for Technical Services,
reporting on cost variations as required.
o Coordinate the activities of the Mine Planning (Short Term), Mine Planning
(Long Term), Survey, Geotechnical, Ventilation, Geology and Diamond Drilling
Sections within the Technical Services Department.
o Ensure provision of written and/or verbal and operational reports and
information as required by management or BGML stakeholders, including
government authorities.
o Provide leadership, supervision, skills training and support for employees in
accordance with departmental requirements and individual Progress and
Development Plans.
o Actively foster two-way communication, teamwork among employees within
the Technical Services Department and encourage interdepartmental
cooperation to achieve company objectives.
o Provide the leadership and motivation necessary to ensure that employees
and contractors adhere to all policies, standards and procedures during the
execution of their duties.
o Develop, implement and monitor systems to collect, validate and analyze all
relevant planning and performance information to assist in the optimum
extraction of the ore.
o Create a working environment that ensures that employees gain new skills
and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective
training and mentoring programmes.
o Execute the implementation of localization plans and performance
management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and
behaviour through effective knowledge and skills development.
o Continually review every aspect of the Technical Services Department to
ensure that opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are
identified and implemented.
o Participate in the BGML management and operational teams to ensure that
targets for resources extraction, capital management, cost control, safe
working, employee development, environmental management and corporate
governance are achieved.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
o Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or Geology from a recognised
Tanzanian or international university.
o Further advanced qualifications in mining, mineral economics, management
or other related area will be well- regarded.
Experience Requirements:
o Minimum of 15 years experience in underground hard rock mining
with an impeccable track record of at least 5 years at Chief Geologist or
Chief Mining Engineer level and recent experience in the gold mining
industry.
o Thorough knowledge of Ore Reserves, the optimisation of Ore Reserves and
detailed knowledge of best practice standards in an underground mine.
o Exposure to management presentations and thorough understanding of the
consulting role required for effective service delivery.
o Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites, developing
countries and the development of Tanzanian Talent.
o Sound knowledge of business imperatives and financial aspects of mining
including budget development, project evaluation and investment analysis.
o Experienced in high level conceptual and analytical thinking skills with the
ability to crystallize abstract ideas into improvement strategies.
o Knowledge of dealing with culturally diverse groups and skilled in utilizing
appropriate means to communicate effectively.
o Knowledge of mentoring employees from diverse backgrounds.
o A strong personal commitment to implementation of proper safety,
environmental and other policies and procedures, with the ability to foster
strong safety culture among engineering personnel
.
