TITLE: Manager; External Affairs

Job description

Job Purpose:
  • Create healthy external engagements matrix for NMB, tabling all issues for NMB business across all departments and work on solving them with the right channels.
  • Oversee all the issues within the Government that may have an impact on NMB business and pre-empt solutions; advise on engagement with key political, business and media stakeholders and contribute to the bank’s communications priorities and objectives.

The incumbent that we are looking for will be responsible to:
  • Support the line manager in developing proactive public affairs strategy for communication with members of Parliament, government departments, NGOs, think-tanks and other key stakeholders.
  • Deliver the bank’s public affairs action plan and manage programs of related activities as per NMB’s stakeholder mapping.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of local lobbying toolkits and advise on engagements.
  • Provide support for regional local government teams, overview and scrutiny meetings, and other associated engagement meetings to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Advocate internally for the importance and benefits of good local and national engagement.
  • Monitor publication of key health and/or other government consultations and coordinate internal stakeholders to produce consultation responses.
  • Summarise key findings for policy developments, stakeholder’s forums e.g. Parliament/ Bunge sessions for internal stakeholders update and auctioning where necessary.
  • Monitor information sources produced by stakeholders such as government departments/institutions and other bodies in order to keep key internal stakeholders informed of any developments related to their field of activity.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with significant external contacts such as offices of members of Parliaments, key government departments, customers, media, etc.
  • Research, forecast and evaluate the effects of public policy on the organization.
  • Maintain a register of stakeholder contact, engagement and correspondence; identify and advise on attendance at political conferences and other events and/or exhibitions.
  • Advise on engagement in government or stakeholder led research initiatives relating to NMB’s business.
  • Prepare and brief key individuals to attend and/or speak at identified events and/or political meetings.
  • Follow-up on stakeholders exhibitions/forums and gain invitations access for NMB to participate and showcase its products and services.
  • Support the Public Relations and Internal Communications teams with political briefings in the aspect of crisis management.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Political Science, Social Science or any other related fields.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in stakeholder management, preferably with positive existing relationships with high ranking government officials.
  • Proven public affairs track record.
