Residents in Jinja City have raised concerns over garbage that has piled up along several roads which has caused a bad odor in the city and disruption of people’s businesses.

Traders in Jinja city have raised an outcry following the heaps of waste surrounding Jinja Central market. They claim this has blocked most sections of the road which is making customers fail to access the market.

The secretary general of Jinja Central market, Charles Busulwa said that garbage has accumulated for a week creating unpleasant smell for traders and customers, he added on that the strong smell has discouraged customers from entering the market.

“Our trucks are unable to access the dumping site because the road has been blocked by garbage” Semaganda Said.

Semaganda whose company collects garbage suggested that the city council needs ti acquire equipment like graders to creat space by pushing garbage to other landfills.

Rajab Kito, Public relations Officer, Jinja City has confirmed delays to garbage collection attributing the cause to heavy rains that has made transportation difficult.
