Activists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have raised their banner more than an antiquated stronghold in Syria's notable city of Palmyra, pictures posted online overnight by the supporters indicated.

The aggressors grabbed the city, called Tadmur, following quite a while of furious battling with the Syrian armed force on Wednesday.

"Tadmur fortification under the control of the Caliphate," read an inscription on one photo posted on social networking sites.

In another, a grinning warrior is indicated conveying the dark banner and remaining on one of the citadel's divider.

Syria's antiquities director Mamoun Abdul karim on Saturday affirmed that ISIS had raised their banner over the old citadel that disregards a percentage of the remnants of Palmyra; he was quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying.

Abdul karim told after the public interview: "There's nothing left in the gallery, we had been continuously exchanging the artifacts to Damascus."

"However, there are still the extensive things, similar to the sarcophagi, which measure three or four tons and we couldn't move, those are what stress me."

On Friday, the U.N. Security Council communicated profound sympathy toward a huge number of regular citizens caught in Palmyra after it was caught by ISIS.

The 15-part chamber called for safe entry for escaping regular citizens and expressed their "grave concern" for the assurance of the antiquated city, a World Heritage site, as indicated by Agence France-Presse.

The chamber specifically communicated sympathy toward ladies and youngsters, noticing that ISIS activists had set up an "example of snatching, misusing, and mishandling ladies and kids somewhere else including assault, sexual misuse, constrained marriage and constrained youngster enrollment."

Referred to in Syria as "the pearl of the desert", Palmyra is home to colonnaded back roads, extravagantly enlivened tombs and antiquated Greco-Roman ruins.

ISIS has decimated ancient pieces and antiquated landmarks it sees as worshipful in different urban communities and there are apprehensions it may now obliterate Palmyra, home to prestigious Roman-time remains including all around saved sanctuaries, corridors and a theater.
