If america has oil what exactly do they want in middle east?

i was very suprised to realise usa has plenty of oil in its seas when gulf oil spill saga resurface contrary o perception of many that america has no even a pint of oil on its land that is whay they are desperate and trying by all means to get hold of oil in the middle east, its just recently i came to realise that that is not the only well in the seas of america, so the question to ask ourselves is if america seems to have oil of its own now what could be the real intention of their presence in the middle east while they are using a lot of force and energy to remain over that region?

The US is one of the biggest five oil producers in the world but that is still not enough to satisfy their big oil consumption so they still import not much from the Mideast but Venezuela,Nigeria and Angola.
